Lymphedema

Dr. Loren Borud Has Major Contributions To The Treatment Of Lymphedema

His extensive field experience has made Dr. Loren Borud a recognized name in the world of plastic surgery. He is also well-respected because of the numerous medical publications he has written and the several seminars he has conducted across the U.S. The publication of his book Plastikonomics: What I Learned As A Harvard Plastic Surgeon all the more solidified his reputation as a trusted medical expert. But what most people do not know about Dr. Borud is his broad contribution to the medical advancement, research and treatment of lymphedema.

Lymphedema is more commonly known as elephantiasis. It is characterized by an acute swelling of the lymph nodes or lymphatic vessels in a particular part of the body, usually in the legs and external genitals. The affected part of the body swells to an elephant-size proportion, thus the term elephantiasis.

Dr. Loren Borud along with several other colleagues founded the Harvard Lymphedema Clinic in 2004. The establishment of the clinic has allowed them to study lymphedema closely via case patient studies and has also provided them the means to practice and treat patients at the same time.
